Legal Services

The University is looking for a paralegal to join its highly-regarded in-house legal services team, reporting to the University Solicitor.

The work undertaken by the Legal Office encompasses all areas of the University’s activities. The team works closely with the University’s professional services teams, Heads and Directors of departments, the Vice Chancellor’s Group, and our Board. We are trusted to anticipate and manage risk, providing expert, pragmatic legal advice.

As part of a team of two, you will have hands-on exposure to all aspects of our work, and will be dealing directly with internal clients from week one. You will report to and work directly with the University Solicitor, who will rely on you to assist with organisational needs, case management, and the preparation of legal advice, contracts, reports to VCG and board, legal research, training preparation and general correspondence.

As the paralegal, you will be responsible for key compliance processes such as co-ordinating our Risk Management Group, managing Freedom of Information requests, and supporting our annual insurance renewal and audit processes. You will also manage legal office systems, receive client queries, liaise with both internal and external University networks and exercise commercial awareness by monitoring emerging issues for the University.

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree or relevant work experience. Whilst legal training (or experience within a compliance-related role) is desirable, training can be provided for the right candidate.

Informal enquiries are welcomed by Peter Aldred, University Solicitor, via email at p.aldred@chi.ac.uk or telephone 01243 81 6498.

The University of Chichester embraces all forms of diversity and aspires to be a fully inclusive and representative employer and so we encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people.
