The Directorate of Public Health is a progressive multi-disciplinary department committed to improving health and tackling inequalities in West Sussex. The Directorate of Public Health is the chief source of specialist public health advice and leadership whose key role is “to protect and improve lifelong health and wellbeing of everyone in West Sussex, by commissioning evidence based services and empowering people to make healthier choices."

The Directorate also works closely with local agencies and partnerships to ensure the widest possible participation in the health and health care agenda.
The Public Health Lead will work to a Consultant in Public Health and will lead a programme of work to improve the public health outcomes for children and young people in West Sussex. They will be responsible for the commissioning of an evidence-based programme of Public Health services to improve health and reduce inequalities for children, young people and families. A key role will be in commissioning the Healthy Child Programme 0 – 19. They will take a strategic overview of the wider health and wellbeing system for children and young people, developing and leading strategic, multi-organisation partnerships to deliver public health priority outcomes.


You will have a Master’s degree, or equivalent qualification, in Public Health or equivalent level of experience; significant experience of working in the health and wellbeing system for children and young people and experience in managing complex public health, health or local authority commissioning effectively. You will have good analytical, communication, partnership and interpersonal skills.

Salary £47,00 to £50,700 per annum
Temporary/Secondment for 1 year, Full time
Based at The Grange, County Hall Campus, Chichester
(working across the County)
37 hours per week
