The Public Health Department is a progressive multi-disciplinary department committed to improving health and tackling inequalities in West Sussex and is the chief source of specialist public health advice and leadership to both the local government and the NHS across West Sussex.

Increasing Independence in Later Life is a key priority for West Sussex County Council and we have a challenging plan to deliver over the next 3 years. You will be a core member of the Later Life team, supporting the Consultant in Public Health (Later Life) and the Public Health Lead. The Team works closely with colleagues and partners, providing public health advice on care pathways, evidence-based service models and population needs.

You will be expected to undertake project work to support the delivery of key public health projects and programs within the team and, on occasion, across the wider public health department. The support to these projects will often be providing time limited input to support the implementation of a new work stream or the decommissioning of an existing one under supervision.

You will have advanced analytical skills to interpret and manipulate varied and complex project information and organise, plan and meet set targets, as well as strong problem solving skills with the ability to anticipate problems and resolve issues independently, planning solutions and making sound pragmatic decisions. You will have a good first degree in a relevant subject (or equivalent), and advanced IT skills in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.

This is an ideal post for an individual with some experience in an NHS or local authority setting to develop their career in public health. The postholder will be supported to develop public health competencies in line with the requirements for Practitioner Registration with the UKPHR.
