The University of Chichester has four ''fees only'' bursaries for PhD study for 3 years available in the area of History and Politics.

The University of Chichester excelled in the UK-wide Research Excellence Framework (REF) with results announced in December 2014 revealing that 90% of our research is rated as internationally recognised or higher and 15% classified as ''world-leading''.
Innovative proposals for MPhil/PhD study are invited in a range of research areas. The strategic drive behind the studentships is to attract excellent students to conduct collaborative MPhil/PhD projects with the following named third party organisations: Black Cultural Archives; Outside In; West Sussex Record Office and Tangmere Aviation Museum.
The subject area of History and Politics will accept applications from postgraduate research students in the following area initially:
PhD Area: Black Cultural Archives (BCA) (1 of the 4 bursaries to be advertised)
An MPhil/PhD undertaken in partnership with the Black Cultural Archives (BCA) to be supervised by Prof. Hakim Adi. The MPhil/PhD project will be undertaken in collaboration with the Black Cultural Archives and draw extensively, although not exclusively, on archival deposits, such as the Heart of the Race Oral History Project, that chronicle the modern history of activist women of African and Caribbean heritage in Britain. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver workshops based on his/her research at the BCA and to deposit therein appropriate research material. We are particularly interested in high calibre applicants who want to play an active role in the continued development of our research environment. Applicants should have a good first degree or MSc/MA qualification. Every applicant should have good quantitative and/or qualitative research methods skills appropriate to their discipline, and should be a well-organised, self-motivated researcher.
