Apprentice Civil Engineering Technician Salary: Grade 3 15,507 to 16,491

West Sussex is a county of 3,988 kilometres of road, 7.82 million square metres of footways, 726 road bridges, 34 subways and 60 footbridges. It is also home to the internationally important transport hub Gatwick Airport. The Highways and Transport department at West Sussex County Council are looking to appoint 3 new apprentices for a 2 year period to come and work with a busy department whilst being supported to study for a BTEC in Civil Engineering. In order to apply you will need 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above (ideally including English and Maths) or an equivalent vocational qualification, for example, Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship. You will be based at Chichester but County wide travel is required. As part of the apprenticeship you will attend college weekly on day release; alongside working with an assessor to develop a work-based portfolio; undertaking work based assessments, completing all assignments/projects relating to the Apprenticeship framework and presenting evidence portfolios for assessment. We are looking for individuals with a passion for engineering who are proactive and keen to learn and progress in the field of Civil Engineering. In return we can offer you an exciting opportunity to learn a deep understanding of the important work carried out by the Highways and Transport Department whilst gaining a recognised qualification. The role will include: supporting project teams providing relevant information and supporting the administration of projects; technical duties such as inspections, surveys, measurement, estimations, calculations and producing CAD drawings, alongside assisting with project documentation including budgets, monitoring expenditure and producing reports. You would need to have the ability to travel independently, preferably with a view to obtaining your driving licence over the course of the 2 year apprenticeship. All additional travel expenses will be paid. Interviews are planned to take place the week commencing 21st August 2017, but these are subject to change. Please ensure you apply on our West Sussex County Council website by clicking ‘Apply’ and following the instructions, ensuring you complete and upload the attached application form.
