This post offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to work directly with county councillors and senior officers to support decision-making, whilst working in a dynamic team environment where personal development is supported. The purpose of this role is to contribute to the smooth operation of the County Council’s democratic processes. The initial area of focus for the new post holder will be supporting the work of the County Local Committees in addition to a range of other support tasks within Democratic Services. Characteristics of the role: • Provide a high level of customer service for all customers • Have good IT skills to be able to provide the support for customers as required. This may include producing material in different formats, social media and web-based communication. Key responsibilities: • Community Initiative Funding – Advice to public and Members on the CIF; Receipt and circulation of applications; Production of the CIF reports to CLCs and management of the spread sheet; Cheque processing; Production of statistics as required • Publicity – produce material in different formats to support the best outcome for the area including managing a number of social media pages. • Agenda Despatches – including PrAMs, once signed off by the DSO • Meetings - calendar of meetings (including PrAMs); venue bookings and logistics • CLCs – with guidance from a DSO and/or SA, prepare agendas, clerk the CLC and prepare minutes when necessary to cover for a DSO (to be used as an aid for succession planning) • CLCs – occasionally supporting the DSO at larger CLC meetings (usually where there may be contentious issues) to aid the smooth running of a meeting • Website – keeping the CLC pages up to date especially on meeting dates and venues; placing agreed content on social media pages as required • Working with communities – project work as identified by the SA or DSO We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and communication skills both written and verbal. The successful applicant will have an understanding of how local government works, be experienced in working with processes and procedures and have good IT skills. The role requires well-developed inter-personal skills as the post holder will be in regular contact with a wide range of people in a complex environment.
