You will join our busy Searchroom team at West Sussex Record Office in Chichester, helping members of the public to access historical records dating back over 1,200 years. The duties include supervising the public and volunteers in the Searchroom, providing occasional help in Reception, carrying out administrative tasks, and dealing with face-to-face, telephone, postal and e-mail enquiries. You will also be responsible for retrieving documents from the strongrooms and cataloguing archives under the direction of archivists.
With a good standard of education, you will be computer literate with excellent communication skills. An interest in family history and in the county's history and archives would be an advantage.
The post is full time (Tuesday to Saturday) with occasional evening work in order to help out at special events. This is an active role and some lifting will be required.
