Project Digitisation and Preservation Assistant, Queen Victoria Hospital East Grinstead

Temporary full-time post for 12 months for a Wellcome Trust grant funded project.

Based within the West Sussex Record Office in Chichester you will play a key role in the delivery of an exciting new partnership project funded by a Wellcome Trust Research Resources Award.
You will be responsible for preserving and packaging the archive of the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, including the working papers of the renowned surgeon, Archibald McIndoe, and the patient case-files of the pioneering plastic and reconstructive surgery carried out there, including those of the World War II airmen known as the Guinea Pig Club.
You will also be responsible for digitising the Guinea Pig Club case-files together with the Mollie Lentaigne medical drawings, currently held at East Grinstead Museum, which are being digitised as part of this project. You will work with the Project Archivist, who will be cataloguing the archive, and may be asked to assist with the dissemination of the project.
You will be self-motivated and well-organised, with a good standard of education. You will be computer literate with a good working knowledge of digitisation processes and an ability to pay close attention to detail. Some experience of preserving and packaging archives would be an advantage.
The post is full-time for 12 months for the duration of the project.
