DBS Disclosure at Enhanced level will be required prior to any offer of employment and this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

What is the role? Based in the Adult Safeguarding Team at the Civic Office, this role involves making enquiries into allegations of abuse against vulnerable adults and attending strategy meetings and case conferences. You will work with a variety of statutory and non-statutory agencies during any enquiries as the Police, Health Teams, Residential Homes and Domiciliary Care Agencies.

You write reports for safeguarding meetings and help develop protection plans, also work towards reducing the concerns to those adults that have been identified as being at risk.

You will be working to protect people who have complex and complicated needs within Older Persons, Adult Mental Health, Substance Misuse and Learning Disabilities.

You will be working independently and be responsible for managing your own caseload and maintaining case records within an environment offering a high level of supervision and support.

You will also be expected to supervise unqualified staff following supervisory skills training, as part of Portsmouth's commitment to support and nurture its staff.

Who is the person?

You need to have:

• A qualification in social work i.e. Dipsw, MSc, CQSW, and CSS. • Current registration with the HCPC • Post qualifying experience of working with adults, as this post is based in the busy team. • A thorough understanding of Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and preferably have experience of undertaking enquiries into allegations of abuse or neglect • Understanding of, and demonstrable commitment to, personalisation. • Good assessment skills. • Good evidence based recording skills, as your evidence maybe required to be used in court. • Knowledge of fair access to care. • The ability to manage a case workload efficiently and effectively. • Good communication skills, and be able to deal confidently with service users and agencies. • Demonstrable IT competence. • Ability to work on your own initiative. • Skills to operate as a team member and be supportive to colleagues.
