The South Downs National Park Authority is a new, exciting organisation that aims to look after the National Park and help people to learn about and enjoy the area. We also have an important role to support the local communities that live and work here.

The Authority became fully operational on 1 April 2011 and we are looking for talented individuals to take this important work forward. We are committed to creating a modern, flexible organisation that works through partnership and supports local action.

We are looking to recruit an Education Officer who will be responsible for the delivery of the Authority's direct education activities for the promotion of understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the South Downs National Park.

As the successful candidate, you must have the following knowledge, experience and skills:

• Demonstrable professional experience in a similar role
• Experience of teaching in a range of environments
• Experience of working with partner organisations from the public, private and/or voluntary sectors and proven ability to develop and maintain effective links with representatives of appropriate stakeholder groups
• Demonstrate previous experience of working as an effective team member
• Awareness of the National Curriculum and current trends in education
• Knowledge and awareness of stakeholder/partner organisations working within the fields of environmental education and lifelong learning
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, demonstrating an understanding of audience needs
• The ability to work unsupervised, combined with good team-working skills
• Good organisational skills with experience of managing own workload to meet deadlines
• An ability to effectively manage a workload which combines both reactive work and planned initiatives
• Excellent IT skills – Microsoft Office; Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel

And you must have the following education/qualifications:

• A degree, (professional qualification or equivalent) in a discipline closely related to the specialist responsibility of the post.
• Valid driving license

• Location: Midhurst, with regular travel throughout the South Downs National Park
• Job Type: Permanent
• Hours: This is a full-time post of 37 hours per week. However a 30 hour, 4 day week may be considered. Job share applicants will be considered. The post will involve some evening and weekend working.
