Applications are invited for a new full time (10 PA) Consultant Renal Transplant and General (or other) Surgical post to work within our expanding and developing renal and transplant service and a very busy general surgical unit.
Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is a cancer centre providing a full range of elective and emergency care (excluding cardiac and neurosurgery) under contract to a range of purchasers.
The Trust has recently completed a major redevelopment which has brought all major services on to one site, also supporting at least three community hospital sites providing care close to patient's homes.
The Wessex Renal and Transplant Service (WRTS) is one of the larger regional renal units in the UK and the unit has significant potential to develop and increase its current transplant activity. The unit is located within a new purpose built unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, serving a population of just over 2 million covering Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, West Sussex, and Wiltshire.
The WRTS has a very active living donor transplant programme, with plans to double these transplants to 40 per year by 2013. A laparoscopic living donor service has recently been established in which the successful candidate could participate. The WRTS also has a very successful NHBD programme in which the successful candidate would be expected to participate. As well as transplantation, all forms of dialysis access are performed on dedicated local and general anaesthetic renal lists, as well as elective and emergency general surgery on our renal population.
A second specialist interest is desirable and the successful candidate may have a choice of other surgical subspecialties. Vascular or other subspecialty expertise would be considered in the appropriate candidate.
Informal enquiries are welcome. Those who wish to do so should contact Mr. Paul Gibbs, Clinical Lead for Transplantation, on 02392 286000 ext 1053 or e-mail paul.gibbs@porthosp.nhs.uk, and/or Dr Tim Leach, Chief of Service Renal & Transplantation, ext 1001 or e-mail tim.leach@porthosp.nhs.uk.
Individuals wishing to apply should be on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC) (or within 3 months of obtaining CCT or equivalent). The New Consultant Contract (2003) will apply to this post.
This Trust is committed to equal opportunities and operates a no smoking policy. Applicants, who for personal reasons, wish to job share/work part time are welcome to apply.
